I Love the Bronx: Boone Room
By: Nilka Martell
Buildings on Boone Avenue between 172nd and 173rd Streets, and 173rd Street between Boone Avenue and West Farms Road have served as destinations for graffiti artists. In 2011, the area was rezoned to help alleviate the housing needs for the borough’s growing population, and the buildings will be demolished to make way for a massive ten-building development. In response, SLO Architectures created “The Boone Room,” a three-part art project. Amanda Schachter, architect and principal of SLO Architecture, explains that its purpose is 'to document the street art on Boone Avenue.
